Celebrating World Book Day
The children had great fun dressing up as their favourite character or in pyjamas for a bedtime story when we celebrated World Book Day on Friday, 7th March. The school took part in lots of reading related activities and could choose which class to visit to listen to a story read by the class teacher.
PTFA Wonder Bar Event!
Oompa Loompas (aka PTFA) and Willy Wonka (Mrs Moss) took over the school playground, selling Wonder Bards with some lucky children being golden ticket winners.
Shrove Tuesday's Pancake Races!
We celebrated pancake day, Shrove Tuesday, by having pancake races at lunch time. The peer mentors helped to run the infant races. In worship we've been thinking about what temps us and how at lent we can choose to give some up or try something new.
Visit from the Dogs Trust
We welcomed Phil from the Dogs Trust who taught us all how to stay safe and be kind around dogs. The children thoroughly enjoyed the assembly and workshops.
Professional Violinist Visits the School
Ruth Palmer, professional violinist came to perform to us, we also sang and tried to match the pitch of different notes.
Our Amazing Dance Group
A group of children across Year 3 to 6 took part in the Great British Dance Off. They have been practising hard for 2 months and blew us away with their performance. They did very well being placed 8th! They've really shown our school value of resilience! Thank you too to our dancing queens Miss Leishman and Mrs Wood for arranging this fantastic opportunity.
Visit for Chris at Starfish Malawi
We were very fortunate to welcome back Chris Knott from Starfish Malawi. He spoke to us about water and hygiene in Malawi and then shared some of the money they use in Malawi with us. We’re looking forward to hearing more about our link school on Kaphatenga when he next visits and have a live link with them.
Latest Visit from Chris at Starfish Malawi
We welcomed back Chris from Starfish Malawi who spoke to us about water in Malawi. We reflected on how different access for water is compared to the UK. We were also fascinated by the money Chris showed us and some of their toys. We can't wait to talk to our link school in Kaphatenga.
Celebrating NSPCC Numbers Day
Miss Leishman and Miss Thomas organised a fabulous NSPCC numbers day based around the book 'How many Jelly Beans?'. The children estimated the number of jelly beans in the jar and completed lots of maths challenges in their classes. We also dressed up as people who use maths in their jobs. A great day celebrating maths and raising £205 for NSPCC! Thank you for your support.
Founders Day Service
To celebrate 172 years of Eastry School we held our founders day service at St Mary's Church, led by Sue Brealey. We celebrated our school bison sharing the acts of kindness we had shown across the week. It was great to have so many parents join us.
Kindness Week
We had a school kindness week. Our school vision is to 'love one another as I have loved you.' The children each had a kindness leaf and when an adult spotted them being kind they gained a stamp! Children were also spotted being kind at home and we shared these photos in worship! Finally, each class planned an act of kindness for the community. Year 6 gave out crochet hearts, Year 5 hid positivity stones, Year 4 gave out seeds and planted flowers, Year 3 made bird feeders, Year 2 and 1 made kindness cards and Year R left love hearts in our church.
